Welcoming Practices has supported and encouraged districts to create specific locations or centers where districts can welcome new families. These centers are an important strategy for districts and school offices. These centers become the central area for parents to meet, to find out new information and, for transitioning families new to the district to receive guidance and support. The transition center model is inspired by the “Connections: A Navy School-Based Programming Guidebook.”
Currently, the Temecula Valley Unified School District and the Fallbrook Union High School District have created transition centers to support families. These transition centers help families register their student(s) for school and find resources in the district and community that can meet their needs and interests.
